Therapists Who Get It

About Us

The thought of going to therapy can be overwhelming - having to open up to a stranger about our innermost thoughts, feelings, experiences, and struggles is daunting. The counselors at Coffee Chat Counseling get it! Our mission is to de-stigmatize mental health care while making therapy as approachable as possible by providing a safe, non-judgmental space for our clients to express their thoughts, frustrations, and fears.

Our Story

Coffee Chat Counseling was developed to provide approachable and sustainable mental health care to its clients, while also advocating for change in the mental health care system. We want to improve access to services, as well as seek to de-stigmatize mental health on a societal level. We recognize the connections between mental health and experiences of systemic oppression and are committed to social justice work, anti-racism, and the decolonization of mental health practices. Our therapists work to ensure that we maintain a safe and affirming space for clients who identify as BIPOC and those who are part of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community.

We know that taking the first step in your therapy journey can be daunting - our goal is to be here to support you through this process so that we can work together to access your strengths, establish safe boundaries, explore different directions, heal from trauma, and instill confidence in your decision making.

Making Therapy Approachable

At Coffee Chat Counseling, we make therapy approachable by providing a safe and affirming space for our clients to express themselves. We encourage you to bring a comfort object, some coffee (or other beverage), snag a blanket, and put your feet up to feel your best in sessions.

We believe in the healing power of humor and the importance of making space to discuss your favorite things in therapy - we will likely laugh together and we will absolutely watch or listen to your recommendations so that we can talk about them together. We want you to feel comfortable with us as we believe that it is easier to be our authentic selves when we feel safe and secure with each other and in our environment.

Frequently Asked Questions

1 / What insurances do you currently take?

Coffee Chat Counseling is currently in network with Cigna, United Healthcare, Aetna, and Blue Cross Blue Shield PPO plans.

2 / What if I do not have insurance or you do not take my insurance?

Our out of pocket fee for an intake session is $175 and our fee for all subsequent sessions is $165/session. Our out of pocket fees apply to those who are either uninsured or choosing not to use their insurance. We are able to provide a super bill to our clients to help them get reimbursed through their insurance if they are eligible. The cost of services for individuals with insurance varies based upon their insurance carrier and each plan. Once you schedule with us and provide a copy of your insurance card, we are able to provide an estimation of your benefits. Please feel free to reach out to us directly for additional information regarding cost of services if you have any questions!

3 / What is the No Surprises Act?

The No Surprises Act went into effect on 01/01/2022. The primary goal of this act was to increase transparency regarding the rates of both emergency and non-emergency medical services, as well as to reduce the likelihood that clients will receive surprise medical bills. Part of this act protects clients who are self-pay and/or uninsured through the provision of new opportunities to dispute charges and bills that are more than what was quoted in their Good Faith Estimate at the onset of services and/or when the client became self-pay. Clients who have health insurance but choose not to use it are also protected under this act.

In accordance with the No Surprises Act, all clients at Coffee Chat Counseling who are either uninsured or self-pay are entitled to request a Good Faith Estimate that outlines the estimated costs of counseling. Coffee Chat Counseling will always provide the cost of services up front; however, if you would like a formal Good Faith Estimate you have the right to request one. All Good Faith Estimates will become part of your medical record in accordance with the No Surprises Act's requirements.

4 / What can I expect from an intake session?

During an intake appointment, we will work to make sure that any questions or concerns that you may have about the therapeutic process are discussed and answered. We will also work to make sure that we get to know more about your goals in therapy, what led to you making an appointment with us, and work to obtain a general understanding of who you are. By the end of an intake session, we will discuss any recommendations that we think will help you and will collaborate together to outline a treatment plan. We do want to note that your treatment plan can change throughout your services with us - similar to our day to day life, therapy is a fluid process and we make sure that we check in with you throughout your time with us to ensure that we are meeting your expectations of services!

5 / What can I expect from a "regular" session?

Therapists at Coffee Chat Counseling strive to provide a safe, warm, and supportive environment for our clients as we want you to feel comfortable and relaxed when you come to your sessions. We believe that your sessions are your time and we strive to provide you with a space to process what you need while we provide a supportive space to reflect, feel heard, explore, problem solve, and build and practice therapeutic skills.

6/ How long will I be in therapy?

Due to the individuality of each of our clients, Coffee Chat Counseling is not able to predict the exact length of therapy. Some clients may only meet with their provider for a few sessions, while some may meet with their provider for a few years. We typically find that it takes an average of 3-4 sessions before rapport is built with your therapist and we believe that the cornerstone to effective therapy is a strong therapeutic relationship. We work hard to make sure that we are able to truly get to know your goals, as well as you as an individual to ensure that your time with us is effective and comfortable. As we begin to form your treatment plan, we can provide a recommendation for what modality of services may be most effective for you. Additionally, the effectiveness of therapeutic services relies on both the provider and the client putting in the work. We are here to support you through the therapeutic process and to answer any questions or concerns that you have along the way!
