Our Approach

Here at Coffee Chat Counseling, we believe that therapy should not have a one size fits all approach. Our counselors have training in Art Therapy, Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) modalities to ensure they are able to tailor sessions to their clients' unique needs.

Art Therapy

Art therapy helps clients process their thoughts, emotions and experiences through the use of the art making process. This approach allows clients to express themselves in ways beyond verbal language. Our registered Art Therapists (those with an ATR-P, ATR, or ATR-BC after their name) can help those who are looking to improve their self-esteem, build coping skills, process trauma, or work through anxiety/depression.

EMDR

EMDR is a therapeutic modality that utilizes bilateral stimulation to help our clients effectively reprocess and desensitize distressing memories, experiences of trauma, and anxiety. EMDR services also encompass the identification of your goals and development of coping skills. EMDR is a safe and evidence-based process that is effective for a wide range of clients, including (but not limited to) those who struggle with PTSD, anxiety disorders, phobias, addiction and other stress related disorders.

HAES Principles

Coffee Chat Counseling follows the Health At Every Size (HAES) principles. We believe that individuals who exist in larger bodies are entitled to justice and that an individual's access to equitable medical and mental health treatment is a basic human right that should not be determined by the size of their body.
