Hi, my name is Matty Cafiero! (They/Them)
I obtained my Master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Adler University. I have my bachelor's in political science and psychology from Millsaps University. My therapeutic work is grounded in a deep commitment to healing, justice, and liberation, particularly for those whose identities and experiences exist outside of dominant norms.
Who do I work with?
I have a strong interest in working with Transgender, Gender Nonconforming, and
LGBTQIA+ clients. I’m especially passionate about supporting individuals who are
exploring their identities, navigating life transitions, processing grief, or navigating
neurodivergence. I enjoy working with both individuals and couples. I aim to create a space that centers authenticity, safety, and empowerment, where your whole self is welcomed and affirmed.
What approaches do I utilize?
As a queer, neurodivergent clinician-in-training, I believe therapy should be a collaborative,
affirming, and liberatory process. I practice from a trauma-informed, person-centered lens
and work to incorporate intersectional feminist and decolonial perspectives. My work is
guided by a commitment to challenging systems of oppression and helping clients
reconnect with their inner wisdom, resilience, and agency. I value collaboration, curiosity,
and care in the therapeutic relationship, and aim to meet each client with empathy and
respect. My focus is on creating a space where you feel affirmed in your identities and
empowered to explore your experiences at your own pace.
Outside of the therapy room, I’m actively involved in community organizing and advocacy
work, with a focus on mental health equity and accessibility for marginalized communities.
I’m committed to lifelong learning and to staying responsive to the needs and experiences
of the communities I serve.
If you're ready to begin or continue your journey toward healing and self-discovery, I would
be honored to walk alongside you.
